I, personally, registered in order to be able to reply to the few posts (read "questions") I've put here. :)

Typically, though, I find my answers by searching the forums...another feature that requires registration in order to use...and, therefore, don't have a need to actually type up a post.

In any case... *waves*... I'm here every day, even if no one sees me.

You can?t search the forums unless you register? That seems counter-productive.

My apologies....maybe it wasn't THIS forum that had that requirement. I just logged out to double check my assertion and found it's wrong. You CAN search.....but, if you have any questions concerning what you found or if you need to reply to someone's post, you must be registered. (which, of course, makes sense) Hehe

Sorry about that.

Can?t you post in some of the forums as a guest? At one time you could?

Guests can post and reply in the map making and the runuo forums only.

Ah.....that explains it. *wipes forehead* Thought I was losing it for a second there. I must've tried to reply to another section the first time out.

Well, I registered because I needed specific help, and thought you had to register to ask a question.
Since then though I keep coming back because its a fascinating site here, although I must admit much of it is over my head. :D
so - i guess i am officially a lurker.

Well this site doesn?t have much to do with anything except making maps for one specific game, but we are all pretty much tired of talking about that and wander into other pointless subjects more and more often.

so its not about map making in general?
I wondered why I didnt see very many references to games I know. :D

what is the game? or info on the game? I looked around and its funny -since you all know what you are talking about, theres no real description. I am sure its in a FAQ section somewhere, but in all honesty I am far to lazy to look... :D

Ultima Online
http://uo.com

its basically the god father of all online rpg's, and the most extensively emulated, and this community is dedicated to the aspect of creating custom worlds in replacement of the original world of UO so that our emulated gaming experience can be unique

It?s so funny to think that a web site can be so dedicated to a subject that not knowing what the subject is seems silly, and yet it?s completely un-referenced as a result of the dedication making it seem obvious (even though it?s clearly not).

It should be noted that, at one point, Ry was intending to do map-making for many games, but never got around to doing anything more than fiddling with it on his own computer. He really is a map-freak. He should?ve been born as a cartographer back before the age of satellite-aided navigation.

Right!
ok - well ultima online... hm. I may have heard of it.

I dont go in for online gaming much, simply because I have a slower computer, and everytime I tried something would go wrong. so I finally gave it up. I have to sit at home and play with myself because of the slow computer. uh.. by myself.. thats what I meant.

I do like to still make maps for starcraft, and other RTS games. and I like to draw the kind of maps that you would see in a sci fi/fantasy book.

so maybe i am not so far out of my element.

heh I registered for the simple fact I love signing in everytime i clear my cookies WHEEE

actually Registering is good to me for those who ask questions alot. You get a feel for the type of questions someone looks for and what type of help they most need. I guess its to profile them into catagories.

Some peopel you can say three words to some take a novel of explaination (im one of them) so i guess it would help to know what person you talk to by sight.
