Long story short, I tried to install Linux (Mandrake) and it didn?t play nice with Windows. I soon realized Linux is for lamers and that I?m too cool to use it, but it took down my hard drive with it when I tried to get rid of it. Along with it was the source to TSMC/STIC/etc.

Those are VERY simple programs that I could remake in a few hours, but I?m wondering how much interest people have in them? I need either a lot of money, or a lot of ego-inflating complements for me to go through the process of remaking them (a lot better this time).

So any comments? Suggestions? Ego-inflating complements?

Sydius you're the baddest programmer dude in the world! And what the world needs now is --

-- well, love, sweet love, but --

what the UO mapmaking world needs now is a more advanced mapmaking program like what TSMC/STIC provide. And if it's easy for you to do, well I bet you'd make a lot of people happy. If you slapped a GUI on them/added scripting ability I bet you could make a more functional program than Dragon.

But first things first, it would be cool to see what TSMC/STIC are capable of. Please consider doing it.... think of the children!

You should still make it, for the sake of whatever. You are the programmer to this one and you can do whatever you want to it easier then what ryandor can do to dragon. I havent used it myself, as Im pretty far with my dragon map already. But you should still go on with it. Maybe there won't be a new mod for dragon anymore, but a new mod for your program :D.

Give it an easier recognisable name. Like... "Llama". And it'll be in the headlines as "Lllama vs. Dragon" :D

Well I sat up a forum on my web site for TSMC on http://www.sydius.com

I'm thinking of renaming it, too.

Correct, very correct. There will not be any mods after mod 10, which is still in progress, and RL has been getting in the way of completing.

pfsg, who needs real life if there's enough UO for all of us! But I must agree, after reading syds page his map making program sounds really attractive. Is there a way to turn a dragon based map into a TSMC/STIC map?

That?s probably one of the strongest points about TSMC ? it can work with any map with the help of STIC.

If you sit down and configured every single tile/color combination for both TSMC and STIC (and made sure they match), then you could use STIC to turn the map0.mul into the two images, which could then be edited and ran through TSMC again to get the final map back. It sounds like a lot of work, but as I mentioned in other threads, Ry managed to do it with the original map.

The downside to all of this being that it will be impossible to protect your maps from easy-editing, though.

Here's why I think you should:

1) If you don't, I might eventually get off my lazy ass and make a proggy that does the same thing.
2) If I do, there will be people that will complain that yours worked better and had more features than mine.
3) I'll track down these complainers, cut them to pieces with a chainsaw, and then feed them to my hampster.

See? Doing this will keep my hampster from getting fat (and there is that saving lives thing, but does that really compare to the health of a rodent? I didn't think so), doesn't that make you feel good?

I think im going to jump over to your program. Currently I don't have much time so don't expect any feedback until after newyear :p But this sounds really nice. Is it faster then dragon?

Oh and.. x.x is it somehow possible when you run the map through your program and give it an extra file. This file contains some sort of random code that is NEEDED to use STIC. This is to protect maps from people who like to 're-use' your map. So without that file STIC won't work. It should somehow be possible.

Well the problem is that STIC is not a very complex program. It?s very simple, and very easy to reproduce. So if I did that, then somebody would just make another version.

*gets on his soapbox*
Y'know I just love people in the EMU world who cry about "their work" being stolen. We are all sucking EA's tit and yet everyone thinks "their work" should be protected. You should be happy you have something people consider worth stealing. That or go over to Sphere :P

That's true, but you wouldnt want an exact copy of your own shard, wouldn't you? OSI works for it, but so do the people who try to change their shard as much as possible as well, therefor it's different then OSI already x.x

Well, until you actually create your own server, your own client, your own art, your own map, your own story, etc. you?ll always be stealing content from someone. 90% of the hard stuff you still steal from EA ;-)
