What is the "right" look of a dungeon anyway? :) I mean... it's what you make it. Pick a theme, then stick to it, perhaps with variations in different parts/levels of the dungeon.

Yeah, there aren't really any general tips except maybe if you raise the Z level of an area, you should also raise the surrounding black to the same Z level.

Well... Here is another question. In Mod11 i see it has a hue for CaveWall? What is this used for. I have made some caves in my mountians but i used black around the caves? Should i use cavewall instead?

No, the transition from cave to black will handle that. The cavewall is there for you to use as mountains in cave. Like....trying to think of a good EA example...maybe Despise? or some of the T2A dungeons. Wher they have cave at say 0 and then a line of cavewall at 10 and then cave at 10 next to it....cliffs. That is basicly what it is there for.

As far as transitions between terrains I think the only one I did in Mod11 is from cave to dirt. Also the dungeon wall transitions are incomplete...I never did get around to fixing them for Dragon. I did finish them for Mapgenerator2. Which to be honest you might want to use if you are starting a new map. Dragon is pretty much obsolete.

uhhhh
oh
yah
current downloads are at (see forum threads)
punt.demuria.com

I think new dlls are there as well.
Data files in the download are over a week old, I've made a lot of changes since (but still not done). I will be sending new data to punt in about an hour and he should have it up sometime tonight, so be sure to check back. Tables are semi-finalized so it is safe to start drawing your map. Please register in the forums and join in discussions; right now it is mostly punt, Dian and I and so most communication has been via email and im but we try to throw some updates in the forums as well. As more people become involved we will be more regular about posting in the forums.

Ok i got a working copy via that link you posted. Look interesting... But i am a hardcore dragon fan (Mainly cause i am use to it)

Does MapGen do coasts and static files like Dragon?
Where can one find a color table for it?
Can i still use photoshop to make my maps?

hehe sorry i really like the look of MapGen but i want to know more about it. I have a map about 10% done for mod11 i dont mind starting over. Just need to know more about this.

Not a problem. I replied to you over there, but for those here not keeping up with the goings on there I will answer here as well.

It generates coasts and statics. There is much more control in the what and how and where as well.

Color tables are generated from the program itself (look for Swatches under Generate menu).

You can use Photoshop or any other program that will let you work with 8-bit indexed color (same as Dragon). Currently the program will create palette files for PS, Gimp and anything that uses the MS palette format (Paintshop for example).
