As designer I?m talking about graphic designers, map makers are graphic designers with different skills i.e.: the ability to create maps for UO emulators.

The Standard Rate in Australia for a designer out or college or with one years experience is about $20 for designers with 2-5 years it?s about $25-$40.

Basically the faster the designer the more they get paid because to make up for their speed they have to charge more.

I have no Idea how much designers in other countries charge but I have enough contacts to find that information out.

Tell me what you think is reasonable and Ill consider it the first job is a test it?s very easy (for you guys I hope) if the first job can be completed the rate or lump sum for all work will be negotiated.

If you think im wrong or these rates are to high or low let me know, if you think you know what the rate should be let me know.

Cheers

I believe imprint asked 50 dollars per map. Seeing that working on a map is alot of work (about 2 months a map if you're not making something really specific). So 50 dollars would be pretty reasonable for any map.

It would be quite expensive if you put it in an hourly task. If you want a true quality map (Im working on mine now for a really long time, you can check some thread on here for average map building time) it will be unpayable if you pay per hour.

I'd do it if I had time, but you might want to contact imprint. Not sure if he still does it, but maybe some others on the boards here are willing to work on it as well :p

whatever happened to passion, people who do it for the passion of the game like me? oh yea, the main community (run uo) sucks. i should know better, ihve yet to have a single person show interest in my world.

$50 for a map puts me at about 25 cents an hour. i'd do it but it violates minimum wage laws. ship me over to thailand or something then lets talk.

haha, hey way to be to offer money thats cool. But most of us dont have standard rates so i would say 50 for a map isnt bad unless you were looking for it in like less than a month then 3 figures would be smart

You're right. But the main problem with the 'passion' of making it...
1) You make a map and people don't use it, or even mis-use it if you're handing it out to everybody
2) You make a special map for someone, and it takes quite a while, and the shard quits. Bye map =/
3) Mapmaking is the passion you only get if you're working on your own shard. You get to be in charge of what happens on most parts of the map and therefor you put much more work on it. If I make a map for someone I don't know I wouldn't change it that much. I could make it look good, though, but to let it fit my OWN needs is different.

And yeah, if you make maps with a passion (Like everyone here does for his/her own shard) takes alot of time. If I started making maps and giving them out, they'd only lower in quality as I make them faster and faster. Therefor, if you spend about 2 months making a decent map for someone, you'd like to be payed for it as well :P
