Alright, well I'm finally getting to worldbuilding/structure building on my map and I was wondering. Whats your favorite way of doing this guys? I used axis in sphere alot back in the day, now there are house builder programs, there are other random tools. I'm confused, whats are the best options?

Since I have not used Punts Worldmaker yet I have no idea if it can place or not.

However I did try out the house placement tool from Orbsydia and it works great once you get the hang of it. The part I liked was that you don't even have to be in the shard to design the buildings and can save them for use later.

I usually build in-game using RunUO and Pandora's Box, and then save to statics or export to UO Architect for later use.

Punt's Worldmaker also has utilities that will allow you to build structures and save them for later placement.

I also prefer Pandora's Box to build in game like HellRazor, since Im new to these things Im trying to test some tools like UO architect, it looks awsome to me..

When I was using Sphere I tried to use Axis but I couldnt configure it right (damn Im bad with .cfg files :S) so I have no idea about what Axis can do...

second that.. Ive only ever built item by item in game, with no prebuilt structures from some tool. Cant get your own style built, if you use some one elses buildings.

Actually you do make your own, their just saved for future use. The nice feature is you don't have to do it while on the shard you can do it from your laptop during your lunch break. Each building is made by "you" from scratch and placed where ever you want it.

You can also edit them without destroying hours of work. There is also the added bonus of not losing all your work if the shard crashes before you get a chance to save it.

I was talking about using UO Architect or something like that to do exactly what Dian and Dev said, to copy our own buildings and paste them anywhere, actualy Im building everything with Pandora's Box, tile by tile, to freeze them later, bridges, two cities, outposts, bla bla bla :P

I make some myself, I use some stuff other people have contributed. A good design is a good design regardless of who built it.

As long as it fits the theme of the city or what have you (and how hard is that when there are a limited number of wall and roof styles), and has been allowed for use by whoever made it, there's nothing wrong with taking advantage of the resources you have. It's not like there are so many custom shards out there that players will get a sense of duplication (unless you just copied someone else's entire city).

There are even generic structures in default UO (such as houses) that I have copied and used to help flesh out cities and towns. Its a real time saver.

The POL test shard has a great starting city, small yet very well done with every detail in place.

Their map in general was well done with no huge empty areas and many interesting sites tucked in various places.

in runuo, how do i make it so i can walk on floors and stairs of houses as i'm making them? I've build a nice foundation but it makes it hard to build more not being able to walk around.

Figuered it out. I've been placing items as non-static so i can move them around like blocks, but you can't walk on them like this. Is there a way to make a group of items static once i'm done placing them?

thats it, if your just wanting the items to be static-like. that does not freeze the items into the static files (statics0.mul/staidx0.mul).

Quoted for greatness.

I just build in-game with statics and Pandora's Box. Now all I have to do is fix "Map Generator."

I'm and my friend co-administrator has built 6 cities in a week by Pandora Box and [freeze only. It's always close to masterwork and there is no troubles, i thought.
