I'm looking to edit the art files in UO and wondering if anyone can tell me how I can view the code associated with these files so that I could create my own custom files.

I'm speaking in regards to just about everything from the ground tiles, items, mounts, paperdoll artwork, etc...

Anyone know how I could view the code for those so that I could edit them???

I think you?re using the wrong terminology? You want to see the code associated with the art files? Well, then, you?ll need a disassembler and a deep understanding of assembly with an infinite amount of patience. I don?t think that?s what you mean to ask though.

Are you asking ?Where can I find a program that allows me to edit the artwork?? or are you asking ?Where can I find information about the file formats of the art files??

I've already got a program to edit them, but I was wondering how to go about creating my own program to edit them...

So I guess i'm asking ?Where can I find information about the file formats of the art files?? in addition to what I would need to know in order to make my own program to do this.

First you need a programming language. There is a huge variety ranging from easy but very slow (VB, Java) to hard but extremely fast (ASM, C/C++) and everywhere in-between. Just do a search on Google for programming, and you?ll find loads of information to help you pick and learn a language.

Next you will need to actually learn that language. Depending on your experience and which language you choose, that can take anywhere between a day (if you have a lot of experience) to several years (if you know no experience). This is going to be the hard part if you don?t already know how to program!

Once you are very comfortable with programming in your language of choice, you will need to get experience with the more advanced parts of your language, such as GUI and graphic APIs. This, again, can take days or months, depending on the language and your learning ability.

Then you?ll need the file formats:

After that, if you don?t know what to do, nobody can help you.

:-)

Any more specific questions?
