Did you ever get a chance to look at the possibility of that project idea we talked about awhile ago? The isometric art cutter for UO tiles to cut larger art graphics into proper UO isometric tiles?

This is a tool that would be a huge benefit to anyone who puts custom art into UO. Especially if you think it would be something somewhat easy for you to throw together. Sorely needed.

Most people (like me) "fudge" it right now by putting empty space under the art. Of course this isn't really a good way to go since in reality your art isn't sitting on the ground, it is floating in the air. But without a good utility to cut the art up properly theres no other good workaround.

I could even help in designing the interface, etc. if we had some working code to handle the actual mechanics of cutting the BMP file.

What about UO: Kingdom Reborn? Will custom art still be useful within? Will it render the same?

Sorry, reason I'm asking, is I'd be definately interested in something like this, but will it still be useful with the new client?

Well no one knows for sure until it comes out. But my guess is that any art cutter will still be of use because they are still using art tiles and they aren't changing the size of the isometric view.

But here is what I *suspect* (these are just my guesses):

The new artwork will still be 2D sprites. They are just doing new renders.

They will add some basic particle effects to the client that will in some way "overlay" the spirtes (just like the current sprite animations do).

From what I've heard, you'll be able to choose to use the old art or the new art. And they aren't changing the map or the isometric view.
So the file format will probably be the same. They may put all the new artwork into its own art.mul and switch them with a packet (the same way the client switches between LBR, AOS, etc).

I think the client will receive a lot of window dressing but I think it will be basically the same client with some new artwork and some special effects added.

Just my guess!

Awesome, then all of our custom work is still going to be perfectly valid then. Excellent!

Well, it's just my guess. I could be wrong! :) Guess we'll see soon.
