Okay, I think I know where the problem is. UO references map muls in 8x8 blocks, and dragon uses map formats sizes to match this 8x8 blocking. Try using 768x512 in the config for dragon (6144x4096 divided by 8 in each dimension). Your map/bmp sounds like it's set up correctly.

*EDIT* don't know what I was smoking when I first replied... The bit I said about map size is correct, but your image isn't. You need an 8-bit, indexed image, not a 24-bit image. What program are you using to create your bmp?

You have to set the bmp to "indexed" mode, and use a palette that matches the colors you're using to make the map. I use GIMP, not Photoshop, but the options should be similar. In the window with the image, choose Image->Mode->Indexed, then choose whatever palette you've been using to draw with. If there's an option to remove unused palette entries, make sure you don't have it checked.

I'm not sure what to tell you. It sounds like everything is set up properly, but from your Axis screenshot, it looks like you have an indexing problem. I'm not too familiar with Axis, but the map display doesn't look right. Try compiling a simpler map, with just one large island and see what happens.

the image (bmp file) needs to be 6144 x 4096 in pixle. That is what Dragon is only able to produce. Check your image properties and make sure this is correct. If not, you need to resize your image. DONT just resize it though, you would want to carfully resize the canvas only. Otherwise anything you have painted is in danger of getting distorted. If you dont have much to save anyways, then start over with a fresh 6144x4096, 256 color image.

If this was supposed to be water, then I'm almost positive your map is not indexed properly. It could be that the maptrans.txt you're using doesn't match the palette you're using, or it could be that you made a mistake when indexing the bmp. Try this:

1) open a new file, 6144x4096, 8-bit
2) go to image->mode->indexed
3) select "custom palette", or similar option
4) make sure any option like "remove unused colors from palette" is not selected
5) select a palette file
6) fill the map with water, then draw in a single large island
7) run Dragon and DragonSP

As for the client crashing... I'm not sure what's causing that, but I think it's a separate problem.

The last time I built a map, I used Dragon mod11, with a few personal modifications in the scripts, but if I were to make a new map, I'd probably swap to punt's new set of tools.

What client are you running? Is it ML? If so, remember ML uses a different map size than earlier versions. I'm not sure if it will read the older maps. I'm not sure this is the problem, though, since I've not used the ML client at all.

Those clients should be able to handle the map... What emulator are you using? How are you removing the client encryption? Are you able to create characters, or does it crash just after you type your username/password?
