Hey all this is the hardest thing about multi's is the darn roof ive gone form flat too triangular how do u make the others like those nice villa roofs! i'm sorry if i'm bugging anyone but i gotta know :\

There's a roofing tutorial in the FAQ Forum :)

Xuri's worldbuilder for UOX has an auto-roofer, Axis for sphere has one aswell. What server do you use?

I use sphereserver right now but might go with pol axis has such a thing where? i think xuri is for uox's isnt it? i checked faq i already know how too do vshaped roofs hehe anohter quesion i have is once u make your map how do u make towns ? do u use multi's or fill you server up with tons of items? i'm sorry i'm quite new i just learned how too make multi's

You cannot use multi's if you are going to freeze them. You have to place the items either by hand or using Axis (for Sphere) or Xuri's WorldBuilder (for UOX). I'm not sure if there is a tool for POL. As for what server you use to run your server it doesn't matter since you can use any server to decorate since once the itmes are froze, it's then part of the client files.

Ok in order to make a good town.
You need

1 axis 1.3A the new version if you use sphere

2 xurisworldbuilder if you use uox

3 a good idea on what you want you town to look like yew style brit style etc

4 ok to get started on towns first to run to each area where you placed your floorplates the coords of the north west corner and the south east corner

#Axis Part#
5 open axis go to the misc tab. click the roofing button enter the x and y coords that your just wrote down and experement with the roof types

#Xuri world builder part#
5 hehe Really dont use xuri maybe Ryandor can supply this part since he uses uox!

6 add the walls to the roof once you get what you like save , rense and repeat.

With a little know-how you can use any tool you want with POL, xuri's or axis, it don't matter. The beutty of POL. :-)

maybe i shouldnt have mentioned switching too pol right now i'm using sphereserver cause i'm very familar to it lately i have been making new houses for my shard and i just dont know how too do some roofs basics that roof thing on axis is quite complicated i'd rather learn how too do it from scratch in the Items>buildings>roofs okay? as for the towns it as just a thought on how too do it when i reach that stage hehe the following roofs i know:

The ^ shaped i learned myself without that faq tutorial
and of course the flat one how do i do the others?

sorry if i'm acting cocky or something but i'm just making the topic smaller heh

Well if you mean the + and T types then you can use the axis thing its much ezer and faster once you get the hang of it ill post a tutorial on using it to help ok! ill start working on it

If you mean scripting as in server scripts, sorry that's not my department. I focus mainly on map stuff. I don't really even focus that much on the worldbuilding aspects, since keeping up with all the different way to do it would overwhelm me. I can only tell you want I've previously done for worldbuilding, and that's using Xuri's WorldBuilder with UOX .70x.
The reason I use this method is becuase most of the worldbuilding tools out there are deisgned for .wsc files, which was a standard of sorts at one time. I've found it's just easiest for my building directly into a wsc file, then being able to do what I need to do, versus biulding in another format, converting, doing waht I need to, possibly convert back, etc.
You get the point.
I'm not saying, by any means, that my way is the best. What I am saying is I know my way the best, and other methods I am not familiar with as well as my way. So any advice, techniques, etc, you take from me, may not be 100% correct. (Actually, anything I say may not be 100% correct, but you stand a better chance with the way I do things).
And as much as some people think I am the best at map making and worldbuilding, there are other people and sites out there that have excellent resources as well.
That being said, I'll more than welcome other people guides and tutorials for worldbuilding. If you have, or know of one, let me know. Provided the author doesn't mind, I'll put it in the FAQ.

Just the kind of answer i would expect from u ryandor but u are right most of ur tutorials go with what u have i heard the uox server is great for worldbuilding but generally i hardly know uox at all!!

and i heard something like the dfn's arent the best hehe i relaly like the way pol is shaping out but it may not be the best i'll watch it and c if i'll try it some time hehe

anyway i appreciate all the help once again and i have one more question that has nothing to do with this

is it okay if i ask scripting questions on here lol so i dont feel stupid on sphere ???

Let me claify: I use UOX .70x, which does not use dfn's. You're thinking UOX .9x, which I don't use for worldbuilding.

Nice assumption on your part. However, maybe I'll consider it when you make a tutorial that actgually does the roof correctly.
Either the tool you were using don't work correctly, or you are not calculating the dimensions correctly.
Either way, there's a bit more to it than this.

Actually it worked fine for me i had no problems and i calculated the demensions right and it came out right you still got to do some tweaks to it tho the house like add some more walls to the front to fix that gap and so on

I'm not refering to the walls in front. One whole level is wrong. the point at the top of the roof is off. They do not line up.

New questions :

I have just gotten an idea

It seems the Ultima Online Verdata can be edited i want too make mountable wolves and more how would i approach this what programs would i need? IE i want to make goblin wolfriders :D and squig riders for my revolution on my shard its a big war between humans orcs and goblins :D

What Programs would i need? i just want too amek thing mountable that arent right now hehe wouldnt it be great?

this thread might get too be really big if i keep asking questions but o well merlin i'm looking over ur tutorial k?

Erm... It will be quite a trick if you can manage any of that.

1. Those creatures where never designed to be ridable.
2. The "mounted" versions of sprites are all sat to a specific height above the ground, much higher than wolves.
3. The art would be off and look weird.

It might be possible with UO3D, but it would take a hell of a lot of tweaking and skill.

well what can u tweak in the verdata??? seriously i dont know what u tweak in this file i'd also liek too learn how too do the following

Tweak Client items such as paperdoll

Make new skills and have new characters too create

there are many things that could be added like Wicans and more

i'm sorry if i'm acting like a control freak but i like customizing things too make my shard different from others hehe and i'm taking my time this shard is not scheduled too come out until at least 2006

by then i should have my scripting knowledge up too date i'm still learning hehe

Ok well the animation thing cant be dune unless you have it so the orc is already is mounted in the animation with a wolf and it will take a while to do something like that.the paperdoll and stuff if you check my download section i got one one in there you cna use and if you dont you can use the program to edit what you like (rightclick in it to load a bmp into the verdata)

I expect this too be a long thread hehehe here is what i know:

Multi's

Here is what i want too know:
How too make new paperdolls brand new no using other gumps
How too make gumps
How to change the Char Creation thing when u make a char
How too make new animations and new bodies
How too amke things mountable that arent wolves etc
How too do hues
How too change the sounds when u enter a certain region
How too make new beasts using new bodies
How too make new gumps
How too make new building floors and walls, and roofs
How too make new spells
that should be all for now and if u think i'm insane i dont blame u lol

okay if that was really anoying then i dont blame ya but thats what i want too know i told ya it was gonna be long

WHy i want too tweak these files

1. Its a great way too customize the shard and set it apart from others
2. I like customizing things
3. It will be great too learn for my skills as a game designer in my future

You'll need a programmer, a good graphic artist (both 2D and 3D), and a lot of time.

For that you will need to edit the gump art, since the paper-dolls are gumps. You'll need a program capable of doing this. I've never done this, so I can't name any, but I'm sure it exists.

"How too make gumps"
See above.

"How to change the Char Creation thing when u make a char"
You can do some minor tweaks by changing the client's scripts as far as the selection of "Warrior" or "Mage" goes, but nothing major at all. If you want something major, such as "Goblin" or "Orc" you will have to either do some very creative tweaking (I can think of a way, but it would be complex to say the least) or reprogram the entire client.

"How too make new animations and new bodies"
Same with gumps, only you will have to edit the art files.

"How too amke things mountable that arent wolves etc "
You can either do some creative tweaking to the art work or reprogram the client. Very difficult to say the least.

"How too do hues"
This is an easy one. There are plenty of hue-editors out there, I beleive.

"How too change the sounds when u enter a certain region"
This is a server-specific question. Look it up in your server's documentation or your server's web site.

"How too make new beasts using new bodies"
Again, edit the art files. You'll need a damn good artist.

"How too make new gumps"
I answered this one above.

"How too make new building floors and walls, and roofs"
Again, edit the art files.

"How too make new spells"
This is another server-specific question. Seek the documentation/web-sites for your server.
