Im using Adobe Photoshop CS and a couple months ago i decided to hire someone to do my map because i just didn't have time to put the kind of detail in it i would have liked. long story short the map he made sucked. So im redoing it but i open up the map in CS and my brush settings are all out of wack. The main problem is that whenever i use the brush it likes to smooth the edges in a transition to the next color. How do i prevent it from doing this?

Sounds like you need to turn off anti-aliasing.
